While some of us are able to avail of the benefits of free education from state-funded institutions, and others have parents and guardians to sponsor this, there are those that have neither.
Our mission at Girls in Tech Nordics is to provide orphan girls with the opportunity to pursue their academic ambitions. This will give them the necessary tools to go out into the world, be independent and follow their dreams.
In Sweden only 16% of the students on Teknikprogrammet are girls and 30% of engineering students at University are women.
In 2017, 32% of girls were not enrolled in school compared to 28% of boys. A male’s education in India is more valued, therefore it is often seen as unnecessary to financially support a girl’s education.
is the number of women in tech companies in Sweden (2020 Allbright). And that number is pretty much the same over the world. Be the change.
One girl has got admission to St.Philomena’s college Mysore for a BCA course starting in Sept’22. Join forces and let’s help even more young ambitious girls.
Growing up in India in the 80’s, I didn’t have any women role models in Tech or Engineering. Now, after 35+ years, there are plenty of Women Engineers, however, there’s still a need to build awareness of Tech as a path for young girls in the rural areas of India. GiTN’s India outreach program is an excellent way to encourage, motivate and provide monetary support to young deserving girls to choose Tech as a career choice.
